The ESS is able to store and discharge energy at an extremely rapid rate. This enables a complete exchange of energy between vehicles, even if they are not braking and accelerating at precisely the same time, as is the most frequent case in everyday service. The ESS is considered to be one of the most effective devices for storing and recycling energy. The benefits of ESS are that it saves energy and stabilizes voltage. In the specific case of Gold Line, voltage stabilization is the main reason for EES installation. The additional benefits of the EES installation are that a small amount of energy will be saved, and CO2 emissions will be decreased. Therefore, it is recommended that LA Metro install the ESS for voltage stabilization at Avenue 61.
