ADAS is a foundational technology for autonomous driving, requiring active involvement from the driver. As the importance of the driver's steering wheel grip information has increased, the HOD pad has been developed. Steering wheels equipped with the HOD pad utilize a different communication method than traditional steering wheels. Existing inspection equipment cannot inspect steering wheels equipped with HOD pads and is limited to inspecting a single automotive model. In this study, we propose a steering wheel inspection system and equipment capable of inspecting multiple automotive models using single inspection equipment by developing pin mapping technology and a CAN-merged communication board. This inspection equipment enables the inspection of steering wheels that use CAN High and CAN Low communication, as well as those using CAN FD communication equipped with HOD pads. To validate the proposed inspection system, tests were conducted on the steering wheels of various vehicle models that were functioning normally. The single inspection equipment confirmed its ability to support CAN High, CAN Low, and CAN FD communication, and the performance of the proposed system was verified through inspections across multiple vehicle models. Since the HOD pad applies not only to vehicles but also to various fields such as ships, trains, and construction machinery that utilize steering wheels, the inspection system proposed in this study is also expected to be applicable across multiple domains.
