Numerical Analysis of Wheel and Rail Noise Source Power by Wheel-flats

초록

Since wheel flats generated in railroad vehicles cause periodic large impact noises and noise damage to passengers in the vehicle and residents along the track, efficient maintenance of wheels is important. In this paper, contact force between wheel and rail when wheel with flat passing is obtained by time-domain integration considering the nonlinear contact characteristics; the noise source power is numerically analyzed in the frequency domain using the rolling noise source model with the equivalent roughness as input . As a result of analysis of domestic railroad conditions, it was found that the greater the flat depth, running speed, and wheel weight, the greater the power of the wheel flat noise source. In addition, a newly made flat had a characteristic in which the noise was somewhat reduced as edge wear progressed. When rail pad stiffness and sleeper mass of track decreased, wheel flat noise source power slightly increased, and it was observed that the difference was small with respect to changes in the ballast stiffness. The results of this study are expected to be utilized in establishing measures to reduce noise and vibration of wheel flats.
