The Standardization of Communication Based Train Control System in Korea

초록

The signaling system is the key technology to secure safety and punctuality. In Korea, each urban transit organization currently operate their own signaling system which is different from one another, from ATS (Automatic Train Stop) first introduced in 1970s, which apply a basic wayside analogue scheme, to ATP(Automatic Train Protection)/ATO(Automatic Train Operation) put in Busan and Incheon subway lines in 1999, which are from different countries. The lack consistency in the system makes the time extended and delayed for identifying causes of failures, and for recovering them, and the quality of train operation and public services degraded. In addition, even in the case of dealing with same functions, the above mentioned difference adds problems in terms of cross compatibility, operation, maintenance, and training, which result in excessive expenses for. The standardization of signaling system corresponding to the technical advances is required to prepare and make help the continuous expansion of domestic urban transit lines, and the improvement of its existing signaling systems. From the need to improve domestic technologies, to secure compatibility across products, Korea started studies for establishing the standard specification to make possible the urban transit signaling system standardization. In this paper the structure of the standard specification of signaling system of urban transit lines is represented.
