A Study on Static Load Tests of Welded Bogie Frame for Railway Freight Car

This study describes how to examine on-site issues that are expected to occur or have occurred while performing the static load test for a bogie frame with clasp type brake. In the manufacturing factory, preparations were carried out, for example, such as grinding and attaching gauges. Load tests for each loading condition were performed including vertical loads, horizontal loads, longitudinal loads, twisting loads and brake component loads. The bogie frame mock-up is a welded structure in which a coil spring was used as a suspension device, and the loading condition was the severest at the maximum in compliance with KS R 9224 (Test method of static load for truck frames and truck bolsters of railway rolling stock). The test reveals weak points which might often be found in maintenance, and it is recommended to continue production after reinforcing the weak points.
