Study on Horizontal and Vertical Temperature Distribution in Railcar during Winter Seasons

Thermal comfort in train or subway is getting more important because since the thermal discomfort is one of the most frequently reported complaints issued from passengers. For this reason, the testing of heating or cooling performance for complete train car is more often required. Average temperature in cabin is very important, and it is strongly dependent on the ambient temperature. In addition, even temperature distribution in cabin is also very important since passengers may feel thermally discomfort if the temperature difference in the cabin is larger than a certain value, usually, 2~8 K [1]. In this study, horizontal and vertical temperature distribution in a train car was investigated during the operation of heating system under various ambient temperature conditions.
