This study aims to develop operating schemes using the autonomous driving-based VCTS train control system. Three alternative scenarios using the VCTS train control system are presented for converting the current large-capacity, intermittent operation system to a small-capacity, high-frequency operation system. Conventional scenario and the three newly proposed scenarios are compared and analyzed using four evaluation indicators: usage of rolling stock, energy expenditure, average dwell time, and indicator of average congestion. Data from subway lines 2, 5 and 7 are applied for comparison and analysis. The results show that average waiting time and average congestion, which are user-oriented evaluation indicators of three newly proposed scenarios are enhanced, in comparison with the previous scenario. Especially, one of the newly proposed scenarios S4 showes excellent results in both operator-oriented and user-oriented evaluation indicators.
