Structural safety of photovoltaic noise barriers (PVNBs) has received little attention, with no pertinent standards currently established. This study analyzed the stresses on a PVNB under wind pressure and formulated guidelines for the standardization and design of PVNBs. A one-way fluid-structural interaction analysis was performed for various wind velocities (10-60 ms-1) and PVNB heights. This model examined the residual stresses generated during the manufacturing process of photovoltaic (PV) panels. Stresses at the critical points were determined. Although all components met the safety criteria specified in IEC 61215-2, they did not satisfy the standard at the maximum wind speed of 60 ms-1 recorded in Korea. However, on applying reinforcement, a notable 37.37 % reduction in stress was achieved at 60 ms-1 wind speed. Therefore, installing a device that limits the deformation of the central area of the PV panel is recommended as a means of reducing stress.
