Reliability-Based Analysis of Load Factors for Design of Guideway Structures for Light Rail Transit

초록

This paper presents a reliability analysis of load factors for the draft of a design manual for light rail transit (LRT) structures in Korea based on the limit state design method. By comparing the amount and variability of load effects of LRT with those of the live load of domestic railways or highway bridges, the section size of designed structures and the live load factors are examined. Weigh-in-motion(WIM) data of LRT operating in Korea are collected and analyzed to estimate the statistical properties of live load. The statistical properties of structural strengths are estimated by simulation of example guideway structures and application of statistical properties of basic design variables. The applicability of the proposed load factors for the design of LRT structures is verified by reliability analysis of designed strengths, employing estimated statistical values for load effects and resistance strengths.
