Analysis of the Effects of Surface Contamination and Changes in Thermal Insulation Performance Considering Long-term Application of Thermal Insulation Fabrics to Railway Sites

초록

The increasing frequency and intensity of climate-related disasters, particularly heat waves, pose a considerable threat to global infrastructure. This study focuses on the vulnerability of railway systems, where extreme temperatures can cause severe issues such as track buckling and equipment failure. While conventional rail-cooling methods have limitations, thermal insulation fabric (TIF) technology offers a promising alternative. This study evaluates the long-term effectiveness of TIF by analyzing specimens exposed to an active railway environment for 1 year. The findings reveal that environmental contamination considerably degrades the thermal insulation performance of the fabric by approximately 21.1%. However, we demonstrate that a chemical cleaning method can effectively restore performance and extend the service life of the TIF by more than sixfold. These results provide crucial quantitative data on long-term performance degradation and a practical maintenance solution, paving the way for the successful commercialization of TIF technology in the railway industry.
