A Study on the Risk Aessment Model on Railroad Track Maintenance

-In Korea, high passenger and train operation densities make it challenging to stop train operations and perform track maintenance when abnormalities occur on the track during operation. Addressing a track abnormality requires additional time to stop train operation, deploy staff and equipment for maintenance, and cut off power for maintenance. The target in Korea is to secure a maintenance time of more than 3.5 hours to ensure stable track maintenance. However, maintenance time is not secured in the Gyeongbu Line and the metropolitan area lines with many trains, which increases the risk of accidents during train operation. From a track work safety perspective, the pressure to complete maintenance within a short period increases the risk of industrial accidents due to insufficient time for proper safety confirmation. The current study aimed to estimate the risk level by section and utilize it for work maintenance to establish a track maintenance strategy. The risk level estimation model by section considered the risk factors of the track, including the number of train operations, maintenance operations, and past failure history. The track risk level prediction model proposed in this study can be effectively utilized in establishing maintenance work plans, as it is presented as a risk level grade.
